Withdrawal FAQs

Withdrawal FAQs

Withdrawal Process

Q: Can I withdraw my student after the school year has begun?

A: If you decide to withdraw your student once the school year begins, please review our Withdrawal/Repayment Policy guidelines, as early withdrawal may require repayment.

To initiate withdrawal, log into the OpenEd platform and click on the Enrollment menu option from the lefthand sidebar.

In the top right corner of the page, click on the Action button.

Then, select Withdraw and fill out the required details.

We'll let you know as soon as our team approves your withdrawal.

Repayment Requirements

Q: OpenEd has already reimbursed me for educational materials. Will I have to repay the program after withdrawing my student?

A: Yes. If your student withdraws from the program at any time prior to the last day of the school year, you are obligated to return or repay the prorated cost associated with any courses, curriculum, kits, software, or technology received either directly from OpenEd or through our reimbursement process.

Program Allocation and Payback

Q: Why do I have a "payback amount?" Why do I have to pay anything back?

A: The full program allocation varies by state and is available to students who remain enrolled for the entire program year.

If you withdraw your student before the end of the year, you will have to pay back a certain amount of the funds that you've spent.

Your payback amount will be discounted by the total number of months that your student was enrolled.

Payback Calculation

Q: How is my payback amount calculated?

A: Your payback amount is the amount of your program funds that you've already spent minus your participation discount.

Your participation discount is based on the total number of months that your student was enrolled.

On the withdrawal page, you can view a detailed calculation of your payback amount.

Device Ownership

Q: I bought a new computer/device using my student's program funds. Can I keep that device after I withdraw my student?

A: Unfortunately no — any new computer, Chromebook, or iPad/tablet that costs over $150 will remain the property of your student's school of enrollment for three years.

If your student withdraws from the program, you will need to return these devices to the school.
